Apple will alert users to a change in how Control Center’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles work with the release of iOS 11.2. The alerts were introduced in today’s iOS 11.2 beta 3 release.
In iOS 11 and later, when you toggle the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth buttons in Control Center, your device will immediately disconnect from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth accessories. However, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will continue to be available, so you can use features like AirDrop, AirPlay, Apple Pencil, Apple Watch, Continuity, Instant Hotspot, and Location Services.
The change was not communicated to customers leading the EFF to issue a statement describing the toggles and misleading and compromising to user security.
The new alerts should help customers understand the toggles a bit better; however, a multi-state toggle button would liekly be more useful and intuitive.
